LED 2015 invites submissions of abstracts for individual papers, symposia and posters.
Deadline for submissions: Extended until 15 February 2015, 11:59pm, NZ time
Presentation formats
- Symposium (short) 1.5 hours with 3 contributors
- Symposium (long) 3 hours with a minimum of 5-6 contributors
- Papers 25 minutes, includes 5 minutes for questions/responses
- Posters (to be displayed at designated times throughout the conference)
Abstracts should address directly at least one of the key strands of the conference:
- Bilingual/immersion/indigenous language education
- English language teaching
- Language policy and planning
- Literacy education (educational and/or community-based)
All abstracts will be double blind reviewed.

Don’t worry if you do not have the final version of your submission right now. You will have the ability to login and amend your details right up until the deadline for abstract submission closes on 15 February 2015. After this date, your submission will be sent for review for inclusion in the programme.

Evaluation of proposals
Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of the following:
- Appropriateness and significance of the topic to the conference themes
- Originality/significance/impact of the research
- Clarity/coherence of the abstract in relation to the key research questions, analytical framework(s), description of research, data collection, findings/conclusions
- (For symposium) Importance/significance of the overarching topic and/or framework(s) addressed, along with the coherence of the individual presentations therein
Conditions of submissions
- Each presenter may participate in a maximum of two presentations, be it an individual paper, poster, or paper within a symposium.
- Abstracts submitted as Papers may be accepted instead as Posters.
- Presenters who have been accepted must register for the conference and pay by 24 August 2015. Conference registration will open on 20 February 2015.
- All confirmed submissions and presenting authors will be listed on the conference website by late September 2015.
- Presenters are required to organise their own travel and accommodation arrangements. The Conference Organisers have secured accommodation at a variety of locations around Auckland and details about this accommodation will be available for booking when registering for the conference.

- Ultra Early Bird registration closes 30 April 2015
- Presenters will need to have registered for LED 2015 by no later than 24 August 2015 in order to guarantee a place in the conference programme.
Conference publication/proceedings
Conference proceedings will be produced after the conference. Further details on how to submit full papers for peer review for publication in the conference proceedings will be emailed to presenters following the conference.
Presentation format details
Symposium
- (short) 1.5 hours with 3 contributors

Symposia provide an opportunity for several presenters with a related theme or topic to present together in a supportive environment. Symposium organisers may divide the time slot they are allotted as they choose but time should be allocated for opening and closing remarks, presentations, and audience interaction. It is the responsibility of the symposium chair to organise their group.
All symposium submissions must be uploaded to the submission site using the Symposium Submission Form Template provided.
Papers
This is a lecture style presentation which may be supported with visual material and handouts. Paper presentations will be allocated 25 minutes including 5 minutes for questions and answers.
Posters
Posters are for one-on-one discussion of a conference-related theme or topic. They are especially effective for information that can be presented visually (e.g. photos, charts, graphs, tables). There will be a block of time allocated when presenters will be available to discuss their posters, and posters will be displayed in the trade exhibition/catering area. Presenters are encouraged to consider posters because of the opportunity they provide for inclusion of more presenters and for extended discussion with other teachers and researchers. You will be assigned a space to display your poster which will fit one A0 size sheet.
Guidelines for poster design:
- Your poster should be no larger than A0: 1189 x 841 mm / 118.9 x 84.1 cm (landscape or portrait).
- Provide an overview of the key elements you wish to present about your teaching practice or research, including objectives, the process, outcomes or findings, implications, references etc.
- Utilise graphics, tables or other relevant visuals to illustrate the main points; use colour if possible.
- Your poster should have a clear focus and be well organised in order to guide the reader through the poster.
- Avoid overwhelming detail. Keep it simple, both in terms of the language and visuals used.
- Choose a readable font large enough to be read from about 1m away (titles/main headings from about 2m distance).
- You may wish to prepare a handout which you can also pin to the poster board.
- Include the title, your name and affiliation in the display.
- Consider how your poster might encourage conversation.
